Darrens Kayaks Bixpy Jet use Tips:
./ If using your adapter during workshop riggings make sure the connector caps are tightly on the connectors to protect the pins and seals.
./Make sure the motor and battery connectors are properly mated before going to the water and you can check out our facebook gallery on how to make the connections here - if using lubricant only use the silicone grease recommended by Bixpy !!
./ Once rigged, any Connector caps removed can be kept in a container to keep them clean and dry ready to put back on when derigging after your trip.
./ Never air run your Jet, it is water cooled so should only be run in water but you can of course run it for a second or two once rigged to check it is working before hitting the water...
./ When rigging and the Jet is out of the water make sure the kill magnet is off the battery just in case one of the remote buttons are pressed by accident starting the Jet...
./ Always make sure the kill switch is tethered to your PFD with a Karabiner when on the water in case you fall off your kayak whilst on the move -
./ It's a good idea to carry a spare propeller and tools with you on trips in case your one sustains damage during the session - you can check out how to replace a propeller here -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdENtk0oJfg
./ Try to avoid running the Jet in particularly silty or weedy areas..
./ If there are any unusual noises or vibrations coming from the Jet stop the motor and investigate..
./ If you need to inspect the propeller Always remove the kill switch magnet first.
./ In case you lose your wrist remote on the water or the remote battery fails you can run your Jet at 50% forward speed by tapping the kill magnet 4 times on the battery as shown here -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKurcAXs8Zw
./ Don't deliberately fully run down the battery on a trip and if after a session the battery is very depleted make sure to charge it again as soon as you can.
./ When derigging after salt water use rinse the connectors with a little fresh water (from your drinking bottle) before disconnecting to remove salt and then put the clean and dry connector caps back on.
./ When back at base wipe over the battery with a damp cloth or if using a hose make sure all connectors are properly capped and holding the battery by the handle very gently run the water so as not to force water into seals or connectors - the Jet can also be rinsed gently with a hose or placed in a large container of fresh water and run at speed 1 for a few seconds - if doing this make sure the container is big enough so there is no excessive water turbulence...
./ The Wrist remote is waterproof but it's best to just wipe it over with a cloth rather than hose it down - it runs off a standard watch battery that will need replacing periodically as shown here -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6CyWJoThvI
./ After rinsing all connector caps should be unscrewed to allow connectors to dry out fully and when dry they can be put back on to protect the connectors.
./ If you like the motor cable can stay connected to the battery - it can be fiddly to keep disconnecting after every use and it can stay connected when charging - It is a good idea however to periodically disconnect, clean, inspect and regrease the connector at least once every season - if disconnecting from the battery regularly make sure to cap off the connectors to keep them clean....
./ If using an extension cable it can also remain connected to the battery and when rigging/derigging just connect/disconnect in the middle - as always keep the connector caps clean and dry so you can cap off the connectors cleanly when finished on the water - if leaving the extension cable connected to the battery make sure to periodically disconnect, clean, inspect and regrease the connector at least once every season.....
./ For the J1 motors it's good advice to not keep disconnecting the motor cable from the motor - once properly mated keeping it connected will help to ensure a good waterproof seal and like the battery connector will only need periodic disconnection, cleaning and inspection...
./ If there are LED's left after your trip you can leave it and charge it up fully again just before your next trip.
./ When charging make sure the battery and connections are dry - it's a good idea whilst charging to unscrew the middle USB port cap on the battery in case any water has made it's way into the connector when rinsing and this will allow it to dry out but make sure to screw it back on before going to the water - the charger light turns green when the battery is fully charged and then it is time to disconnect the charger, do not leave it on trickle charge...
./ When making assemblies I inscribe marks on both the battery (J1/J2/K1) and the motor (J1 only) that line up with marks on the connectors - these connectors are 100% waterproof and should never move but if keeping your connectors mated it's no harm to CHECK the marks are lined up before using the Jet as this will show the connectors haven't become loose for some reason in transit or rigging.
./ If not using your Jet for a period of time or putting it into storage make sure to fully charge up the battery first and then recharge it every 3 to 6 months depending on the model.
