Graham Smith, a well recognised and respected kayak angler along with John Griffin (IKA Chairman / founding member and three times IKA All Ireland Champion) met with Tony Brown and Sauli of Sioen Industries at the Ireland Angling Expo in February 2019 and together came up with a suit design incorporating key features to accommodate the kayak angler - Graham and John (seen above) landing a 170lb skate have a wealth of experience in kayak fishing - whether it be targeting fresh water species or monsters of the deep there are no better men to help design and put the new IKA suit to the test...

Key customised features of the IKA Drysuit
  • Waterproof neoprene neck and wrist seals 
  • An extended low maintenance flexible Aquaseal zipper that runs from the top of the right thigh up to the neck making it both simple and quick to put on and take off and on a tough paddle it can be zipped down a little for extra ventilation if needed - the low zip line also serves as a relief zip all in one - for comfort of fit there are internal shoulder straps and an elasticated waist band at the back of the suit...
  • Extra long socks with a reinforced zipped over layer from the knee down to the ankle offering double protection when walking through scrub and over rough terrain - the additional length will allow for a knee high boot to be worn if desired and an elasticated cuff ensures a neat fit...
  • Reflective tape strips on the back / hood / sleeve and boot covers for good visibility on the water...
  • Reinforced seat area and inside arm and sides as these can be high rub areas which can wear easily particularly if paddling distances...
  • The top of the thighs to below the knee has a reinforced layer excellent for taking bigger fish onto the kayak and it does not absorb slime and ammonia from shark species (which can smell a lot !!) 
  • Two chest high side pockets easily accessed through your PFD - fleece lined so can also be used as hand warmers on colder days...
  • Comfortable fleece lined collar and Graham and John decided to opt for a hood also fleece lined ideal for those tougher conditions with a reflective tape for added visibility...
  • The suit is manufactured in house in Finland with strict quality control at each manufacturing stage and carries International CE and EN ISO 15027 standards - It incorporates Ursuit's own high grade 4-Tex fabric throughout that will not suffer delamination along with Melco 5000 tape reinforcement where needed - the wrist and neck seals are made from a comfortable easy slip on Super glide neoprene...
  • ​To cap it all off the suit has a waterproof zipped pocket on the right shoulder and a handy PLB pocket on the left shoulder along of course with the cool IKA logo...
